Dr. Drew: 'Jeff Conaway Did Not Overdose'

CELEBNAME Taxi star Jeff Conaway is in a "tenuous" state in hospital, but did not overdose on painkillers, according to TV personality Dr. Drew Pinsky.

The 60 year old, who played rocker Kenickie in the hit 1978 movie musical, has famously battled problems with cocaine, painkillers and alcohol, and was admitted to Encino Hospital Medical Center last week.

He has been diagnosed with pneumonia and was unconscious when hospitalized, with rumors suggesting he had taken an overdose of the medication he uses to aid his pain following a fall down a staircase which left him with a broken hip, a fractured neck and a brain haemorrhage last year.

But Pinsky, who worked with Conaway on TV reality show Celebrity Rehab, has visited the star and, although admitting Conaway is in a critical condition, denies that his hospitalization is down to an overdose.

He writes on his page, "Just visited Jeff Conaway. He is stable & looks like he will recover from his pneumonia. Not an OD like press is alleging & certainly not dead.

"(He is) still considered critical with #sepsis. Many people die from septic shock. yes, he is VERY tenuous. My hopes & prayers r with him & his family!... Yes, we all need to pray for him."
