Hugh Jackman and Elle MacPherson were among the prominent Australians invited to a lavish reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace on Thursday ahead of her trip Down Under.
The British monarch is set to visit the country, of which she is head of state, next week, and she invited 350 members of Australia's high society to join her for a celebration at her London residence.
Jackman was one of the first guests to chat to the queen at the party, and he is adamant his fellow countrymen will be thrilled she is making her 16th trip Down Under, despite some citizens calling for Australia to be made a republic.
He says, "They love her there, the only issue I know is she cannot make every city. Even the republicans, the ones in Australia who want to see Australia move on, still have great respect and love for the Queen. I've never heard anyone say different."
MacPherson, who now resides in Britain full-time, agreed with Jackman, adding, "I think deep down we're still monarchists in Australia. I remember singing God Save The Queen. I think we still do."
Aussie entertainer Rolf Harris was forced to pull out of the event due to illness, while pop star Kylie Minogue missed out due to prior commitments.
