Boy George: 'I Want To Go Back To America'

December 16th, 2011 11:17am EST

Boy George British singer Boy George is determined to overturn an order banning him from travelling to the U.S., insisting it's "a horrible feeling" to be prevented from visiting the country.

The Karma Chameleon hit-maker was detained by cops in 2005 after they discovered cocaine in his New York apartment during a call-out over a reported burglary. Boy George denied the substance was his.

He later pleaded guilty to falsely reporting a burglary and was fined, sentenced to five days of community service, and ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation program.

The former Culture Club frontman, who has battled substance issues in the past, reveals the incident still affects him and a travel ban is currently in place - but he's doing all he can to overturn it.

He tells the Pink News website, "I'm working on it. I want to go back to America so much. That first American gig is going to be very emotional for me. I know I've been to prison, but in the eyes of the law I've paid for what I did. Being banned from a country, it's just prolonging my sentence. It's like the idea of rehabilitation doesn't really exist. It's a horrible feeling being told I can't go back."

"Especially after I cleaned up New York and was commended for doing such a good job! I just want to get on with my life."
