January 9th, 2012 11:36am EST

Tom Hanks Tom Hanks is taking his new TV project online - the Oscar winner is making a web series for internet giant Yahoo.com.

The actor has spent years developing Electric City and has finally decided to turn to Yahoo to stream the animated futuristic program, which will premiere in the spring.

He's also lending his voice to a character in the show, about a peaceful city in a post-apocalyptic world.

Erin McPherson, head of original programming at Yahoo, says, "On the surface, the Electric City is utopia and under the surface, Electric City is secrets and heavy-handed state control. What we found really compelling is that this is perfect for a highly digital audience, a lean-forward audience who likes to utilize the medium of the internet."
