Annie Lennox Advises Rihanna To Speak Out Against Domestic Violence
March 6th, 2012 11:21am EST
Scottish singer Annie Lennox is convinced Rihanna should do more to help other young women who have suffered domestic violence, as the pop star could be a force for good on the issue.
The Umbrella hit-maker was beaten by her former boyfriend Chris Brown in 2009 and he was subsequently convicted of assaulting her.
Lennox believes Rihanna should align herself with an anti-domestic violence charity to raise awareness of the issue among her young female fans, because she could be a "powerful" force in the fight against abuse.
She tells Britain's The Guardian, "Here is a young woman who has been through domestic violence and she could become a tremendous spokesperson for that issue but the choice is hers. It's not up to anybody else to do that.
"Of course if she did choose to do that it would be so f**king powerful but it's her personal right to choose it or not. We all have our issues and we have to deal with them in our own way."
