Julianne Moore Challenges The Boy Scouts To Modernize Discriminatory Policies

May 11th, 2012 2:26pm EDT

Julianne Moore Actress and humanitarian Julianne Moore has called on Boy Scouts officials in Ohio to reinstate a local mother who was ousted as a team leader because she's gay.

The Kids Are All Right star has thrown her support behind Jennifer Tyrrell, who was removed from her role as the head of her son's Cub Scout troop because of her sexual orientation last month.

Tyrrell subsequently launched an online petition calling for change in the organization's discriminatory policies to better embrace gay youths and community leaders and it soon boasted more than 300,000 signatures.

The cause also caught the attention of a slew of celebrities including Kelly Osbourne, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Hutcherson and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and now Moore has added her voice to the campaign ahead of Mother's Day holiday on Sunday.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, Moore writes, "Dear @boyscouts, on Mother's Day I support Jennifer and all moms, gay and straight! #scoutsforall change.org/scouts".
