Tom Cruise Opens Up About His Penchant For Suing Tabloids

Tom Cruise has no hesitation when it comes to intimidating tabloid editors with legal action if they print fictitious stories about his family, because he feels some publishers need a wake-up call whenever they go too far.
The Mission: Impossible star has successfully sued over allegations about his marriage to Nicole Kidman and his sexuality, but that hasn't stopped some magazines from repeatedly speculating about his life with his third wife Katie Holmes and their six-year-old daughter Suri.
Cruise continues to keep a close eye on rumors about his personal life in a bid to stop reporters from printing blatant lies before they get out of hand - because issuing denials after the fact do not reverse the damage done.
In an excerpt from his upcoming Playboy magazine interview, obtained by People.com, he says, "They know I mean it, that if I have to, I will sue.
"You start with a letter saying, 'OK, you know it's not true. Apologize.' But with certain ones you have to go, 'OK, you crossed a line, and now you have the attention of my lawyers.' When it involves your kids, you have to go, 'Here's the line.'
"Does refuting things help? Not really. There comes a point when you just have to go, 'You know what? Here's how I've lived my life: I've never been late to a set. I make films I believe in. I feel privileged to be able to do what I love.' You just have to keep going and remember that."
"I hear it (the rumors), I read it, I get it. But life is not a matter of trying to prove anything to anybody."
