'The Dark Knight Rises' Dominates Weekend Box Office
"The Dark Knight Rises" earned a whopping $64 million during its second weeked at the box office. In its first weekend outing, the film opened with $160.9 million in ticket sales.
The film's success was marred during its opening weekend after a gunman in Aurora, Colorado, opened fire during a midnight screening, killing 12 people dead and wounding dozens of others.
Despite the movie massacre, fans are turning out in big numbers to watch the final installment of the trilogy, which stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Meanwhile, comedian Dane Cook says he made a "bad judgment call" last week by making light of the tragic movie theater massacre. He apologized for the crack on Twitter, writing, "I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado & did not mean to make light of what happened.
Also at the box office, "Ice Age: Continental Drift" came in second with earnings of $13.3 million, while "The Watch," starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn, entered in third with takings of $13 million.
Dance movie "Step Up: Revolution" ($11.8 million) and Mark Wahlberg's "Ted" ($7.8 million) rounded out the top five.
