Randy Travis Cited For Simple Assault
Country star Randy Travis has been cited for simple assault following an alleged altercation in Texas on Thursday.
The singer was reportedly trying to defend his girlfriend after she became embroiled in a dispute with her estranged husband outside a church in Plano. Police officials were called to the scene and the 53 year old singer was charged with misdemeanor simple assault.
Officer David Tilley tells People.com, "We got a phone call at around 10 or 10:30 (Thursday) night about a personal family issue occurring between an estranged husband and wife. The wife was reportedly the girlfriend of Randy Travis. Randy intervened and reportedly an assault took place between Randy and the husband. There were no injuries reported."
Tilley has also shot down reports suggesting Travis was "extremely intoxicated" and taken to a local hospital, revealing no one received medical treatment: "There was no indication that he was intoxicated... I'm not sure where these stories are coming from."
This is the latest in a string of legal problems for the star - he hit headlines earlier this month when he crashed his car in Texas while driving intoxicated. It later emerged he had also been seen wandering around naked inside a convenience store.
