Giuliana & Bill Rancic Congratulations to Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill, who welcomed baby Edward on Wednesday via a surrogate mother.

The television personality had been trying for years to get pregnant and miscarried in 2010. Then she battled breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. Not giving up hope, she sought help to bring a baby into the world.

The couple is the baby's biological parents, and Giuliana has been very open about her journey towards motherhood.

She's the not the only celebrity who has needed help expanding her brood. Check out other stars who've employed a surrogate mother...

"The Hunger Games" actress Elizabeth Banks and her husband Max Handelman welcomed son Felix in March 2011 after having problems conceiving. She wrote on her website, "After years of trying to get pregnant, exploring the range of fertility treatments, all unsuccessful, our journey led us to gestational surrogacy." She maintains a relationship with the surrogate mom, affectionately calling her "Auntie."

In August 2008, gay singer Ricky Martin welcomed twin boys Matteo and Valentino via gestational surrogacy. Earlier this year he revealed he'd like to add a daughter to his brood.

Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban welcomed Faith Margaret, born December 28, 2011, by a gestational surrogate. Faith is the couple's biological child. The actress admits it was difficult conceiving her older biological daughter, Sunday. She told People last year, "It took me so long to get pregnant and have a baby, so I have enormous gratitude." Kidman also has two adopted children with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

In 2009, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick announced they were expecting twins via a surrogate. Their good news was marred by an alleged tabloid scam to dig up dirt on the woman who carried their babies. Two police chiefs were eventually arrested for allegedly devising a plan to break into the surrogate's home. Parker and Broderick also have a son together who they conceived naturally.

Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka welcomed Gideon Scott and Harper Grace into the world on October 12, 2010. The babies were born via a surrogate.

Kelsey Grammer's ex-wife Camille ("Real Housewives of Beverly Hills") suffers from irritable bowel syndrome, which prompted her to use a surrogate to give birth to her and Kelsey's daughter Mason and son Jude.

Marissa Jaret Winokur ending up becoming really good friends with the surrogate mother who carried her first child. Winokur and her husband Judah Miller opted for a surrogate birth after the actress underwent a hysterectomy in 2000 to help her beat cervical cancer. She welcomed son Zev in 2008.

Cindy Margolis had her first child, a son, through in vitro fertilization in 2002 but resorted to a surrogate mother to birth her twin daughters in 2005.

Elton John and his partner David Furnish became parents to a son on Christmas Day 2010. The couple is considering using the same surrogate who carried Zachary again because they want another child.
