Ryan Gosling And 10 Other Actors That Direct Movies

Earlier in the week, it was announced that Ryan Gosling will be making his directorial debut with the film adaptation of the screenplay "How to Catch a Monster." It takes a successful actor to be considered and given the role of director, and Gosling is just that. He's starred and performed in many respected rolls and now is taking a turn behind the camera. Here are some other Actors that have been directors.
Mel Gibson
Mel may be a tabloid favorite these days but he has two Oscars, one for Best Director and the other for Best Picture, both are for Braveheart (1995).
Robert Redford
His acting filmography is legendary and as a Director he won an Oscar for Ordinary People in 1980. He also directed these two well know films: River Runs through It (1992) The Horse Whisperer (1998) and many others.
Kevin Costner
Costner has won and been nominated for a slew of awards as an actor and director. The pinnacle of his career came with two Oscars in 1990's Dancing with Wolves where he received and Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture.
Ben Affleck
Best known for his acting, Ben has been concentrating behind the camera the last few years. He's has been given much acclaim lately for directing "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town," he also just completed "Argo," which is due in theaters October 12, 2012.
Clint Eastwood
There's too much to list in Clint Eastwood's accomplishments. To name just a few, he received Oscars for Best Achievement in Directing as well as Best Motion Picture for Million Dollar Baby (2004)… and Best Director for Unforgiven (1992).

Ron Howard
Howard was a child actor playing Opie in The Andy Griffith Show in the early 60's and played Richard Cunningham in the 70's hit show Happy Days. Soon he turned to the director's chair and has been nothing but impressive over the years. A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13 and Cocoon are just a few of his gems.
Jodie Foster
Ms Foster has done way more as an actress but has directed a few movies here and there over the years, the latest being The Beaver which starred Mel Gibson.
George Clooney
Most of us know his resume as a blockbuster actor but George Clooney has also been behind the camera for several titles, last being The Ides of March.
Tom Hanks
We all know Tom as from Big, Forest Gump, Cast Away and many, many other roles. He's also sat in the director chair a few times.
