Ricky Gervais Wants To Know If Hurricane Sandy Is A Kardashian
Celebrities including reality TV star Kim Kardashian, actress Pamela Anderson and singer La Toya Jackson have urged fans on America's East Coast to stay safe as Hurricane Sandy prepares to make landfall.
Sandy was briefly downgraded to a tropical storm on Saturday but as winds picked up speed, officials across states like New York, New Jersey and Connecticut warned residents to head out of town or take cover as the storm is expected to batter the area on Monday.
The weather warning was a hot topic on Twitter.com over the weekend with many stars using the social networking site to warn followers to be on high alert.
After hosting a Halloween party in the Big Apple on Saturday, Kardashian headed south to escape the path of the storm, tweeting, "Back in Miami now. Missed the storm. I'm praying for everyone on the East Coast. I hope everyone is safe!"
Comedian Jimmy Fallon urged locals to keep on top of developments, writing, "East coasters stay safe - watch the news and look for updates", while Michael Jackson's sister La Toya posted, "To all in the path of Hurricane Sandy lets continue to brace ourselves. Please be safe and prepare for the storm!"
Alec Baldwin made light of the situation, tweeting, "Sandy.....that b**ch!", and funnyman Ricky Gervais joked, "This 'Sandy' who's on TV all the time and is blowing the entire east coast, I assume she's a Kardashian right?"
Singer/actor Ricky Martin, whose Broadway show Evita has been temporarily suspended due to the bad weather, took advantage of the calm before the storm: "A great walk in the park before the storm. We may not have foliage after it", while rapper Xzibit had to cancel a planned flight to the East Coast: "Ok, change of plans apparently planes and hurricanes do not get along. I'm now posted in LA."
Meanwhile, former Baywatch star Anderson warned fans to "remember to care for your animal companions."
