'Downton Abbey' Wins Big At U.K. National Television Awards

"Downton Abbey" bested "Sherlock" and "Doctor Who" at Wednesday night's U.K. National Television Awards, taking home the coveted "Best Drama" award.
Julian Fellowes' series, which is also a massive hit in the United States, stars Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery.
"Sherlock" and "Doctor Who" were among the favorites to win at the London ceremony after garnering a total of five nominations between them.
Colin Morgan claimed "Best Male Performance" for his axed BBC series "Merlin." "Call the Midwife's" Miranda Hart won in the "Best Female Performance" category.
David Attenborough's "Frozen Planet" was named "Best Documentary Series," and "Best Situation Comedy" was handed to "Mrs. Brown's Boys."
