Review: Thoughtful 'White Bird In A Blizzard' Is Araki's Masterpiece

Review: Thoughtful 'White Bird In A Blizzard' Is Araki's Masterp
I’ve always been a fan of the style and poised potential of bold indie filmmaker Gregg Araki. Whether the wild abandon vibe of "The Doom Generation" or the youthful hopelessness of "Mysterious Skin," Araki’s voice certainly stands out in all he undertakes. But now matched with an notable cast all delivering their best work, pitch perfect subject matter and a story befitting his slow and substantial sensibility, Araki’s latest titled "White Bird In A Blizzard" might just be his masterpiece. A coming of age tale meshed with a Lynch-like infused murder mystery proves to be just the material...

Review: Charismatic 'Plastic' Keeps The Inner Movie Geek Satisfi
I’m seasoned enough to know that not every film is going to be a stunning achievement in cinematic history. Some movies are merely meant to entertain – provide escapism where needed. The problem lies in films that either think they are giving more with little to no extra effort (see the new Equalizer!) or those that merely go through the motions with zero thought to the folks who pay to see it. Thankfully the more style than substance grifting thriller "Plastic" is none of the above, instead a pleasant distraction with enough charisma and cool to keep the inner movie geek satisfied.
