Janet Jackson Proves She Still Has It

There used to be a time when a new Janet Jackson album was “kind of a big deal.” Since the infamous Super Bowl incident in 2004, things cooled off for “Miss Jackson.” Sure, she continued to have chart-topping albums, but arguably, they failed to have staying power beyond the initial buzz. Whether or not Jackson’s comeback album Unbreakable can “get past this hump” to quote Erykah Badu is debatable, but her first LP in seven years is definitely worth listening to.

“Unbreakable” commences Unbreakable exceptionally, sounding vintage. Jackson sounds best on the chorus, where her upper-regi...

10/5/2015 9:19am EDT
Gwen Stefani
It's not uncommon for singers to get personal in their work (just ask Taylor Swift), and Gwen Stefani is doing just that. The No Doubt star is working on an upcoming album, and several of the songs reportedly center on her ex Gavin Rossdale.

A source "close" to the star told Radar Online that the music is "Gwen’s most raw and best work ever. Some of the songs will include the heartfelt emotions she had over suspicions Gavin had betrayed her with their nanny."

Stefani "is at the point that she just doesn’t care about how Gavin feels about it. Music is the truest form of expression for her,...

When The Shade Hits The Fan: 9 Shady Music Moments From 2015
Musicians have been “throwing shade” at each other for years – understatement. In fact, before it was known colloquially as throwing shade, the esteemed classical composers were literally ripping each other apart with their harsh critiques of one another. Each and every year, new shade is thrown into the hands of the media, which in turn is presented to the people for their entertainment pleasure.

1) Empire (Season 2, Episode 1) Vs. Donnie McClurkin

Even gospel artists – those singing for “the glory of God” are subject to shade. In its disjointed second season premiere, hip-hop soa...

Fetty Wap Has Arrived, How Does His Debut Album Stack Up?

9/30/2015 11:30am EDT
Review: Fetty Wap Shows Promise On Self-Titled Debut Album
Perhaps had Future not arrived before him, the views on rap newcomer Fetty Wap would be different. Future and Fetty Wap aren’t “one and the same,” but there are some clear similarities. Both rappers incorporate more pitch into their respective flows, at times nearly sounding like singers as opposed to rappers. This was off-putting about Future early in his career, but he’s definitely grown on the detractors. This quasi-rap/sung approach is definitely part of the allure of Fetty Wap. His debut album Fetty Wap isn’t ‘the second coming’ by any means, but there’s clearly something there with...
