June 18th, 2015 9:45am EDT
Muse Rocks Its Way To First No. 1 Album With 'Drones'
Another week and another new number one album on the Billboard 200. This week, British alternative band Muse takes the top spot with Drones, their first number one album. Muse’s numbers weren’t the sexiest ever, but the 84,000 units are respectable, with nearly all of those units being pure sales. Interestingly, Muse’s last three albums have debuted in reverse order – The Resistance at #3, The 2nd Law at #2, and now Drones at #1. Wasn’t Muse totally destined to spend some time in the penthouse eventually?

The only other newbie to the Billboard 200 top ten this week came courtesy of ...

Adam Lambert & James Taylor Among Albums To Check Out
Last week was sort of a quieter week on the new release front. This week, there are some notable newbies gracing the retail shelves and digital music outlets. This week isn’t quite as stacked as next week (it’s gargantuan), but there’s a little bit of something for everybody. A former American Idol runner-up and a veteran singer/songwriter lead albums to check out this week.

1) Adam Lambert, The Original High (Warner Bros)

Pop star and former American Idol Adam Lambert made history when his sophomore album Trespassing bowed back in 2012 – he was the first openly gay artist to debut ...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'American Mary'
I'm dedicating this week's column to the female fright fest that is the Etheria Film Night - welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick! Today's selection is a rehash of a review I did for Screamfest, but it felt particularly poignant in light of this weeks women in horror theme. Surgical scalpels at the ready for..."American Mary!"

Mary Mason is a hard working med student with equal parts potential and accruing debt. In order to facilitate her aspirations, she tries for a job at a local strip club, but fortunately fate steps in. Faced with a man up who has been brutally hurt, the connect...

Florence + The Machine Debuts At No. 1 On The Billboard 200
Men, women, and children everywhere, get ready for a total shocker on the albums chart this week. Florence + The Machine scores its first #1 album of its career with How Big, How Big, How Beautiful. Total shocker right? – Totally NOT as all indications suggested that front woman Florence Welch and company was about to “come up.” Kudos, as the alternative band impacted to the tune of 137,000 units, most of which were sales themselves. Compared to the opening performance of previous album Ceremonials, how does the sales of How Big… compare? In sales alone, How Big… wins, with about a 25,00...

June 9th, 2015 9:10am EDT
Muse Leads Albums To Check Out
Ah, call this music release week “the calm before the storm.” After a busy week the first week in June, and a stacked upcoming week June 16, this week is relatively calm. Sure anytime Muse drops a new album as of late it’s “kind of a big deal,” but overall this week is clearly understated in its rollout. Still, there are six interesting projects to check out this week.

1) Muse, Drones (Warner Bros)

Following a three-year hiatus, Grammy-winning, British alternative band Muse returns with its seventh studio album, Drones. It follows The 2nd Law, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 20...

A$AP Rocky Scores

A$AP Rocky Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard 200
In the biggest SHOCKER of the week (can you sense the sarcasm?), A$AP Rocky scores his second number one album of his career with At.Long.Last.A$AP. In a week not characterized by its star power, it was expected that the New York City rapper would easily reach the top of the charts. According to Billboard, Rocky’s impact was respectable at 146,000 units, on par with the 147,000 units that last week’s number one album – Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface – moved. In regards to pure sales, A$AP Rocky’s debut album outperformed his sophomore effort. Still, six-figure sales are a rarity these da...
